Day 2 of Aisha and Omer’s wedding started early at the Chicago Marriot in Oak Brook. Sharon and I spent time with Aisha first, and we were impressed with her calmness/endurance (having just celebrated her ceremony the night before). It must be all the basketball these guys play ;)
Again, Day 2 was not lacking in detail or beautiful decor. One particular tradition that I enjoyed the most is, for lack of not knowing the name, is shoe stealing. Basically, a member from the brides side of the family picks off the groom’s shoes and demands a ransom; in Omer and Aisha’s case, they demanded $5000! There’s much jawing back and forth, bargaining (one was willing to throw in a CTA pass), and negotiating the price down to a reasonable amount. Finally, the families agree on a price and the shoes are returned and the brides family members are several dollars richer. It lasted a good 25 minutes and I found myself laughing hard while photographing the process. I could not have done this without Sharon. She captured great emotion and had a way of seeing ‘the moments’…
