Dana Joy | Maternity

This weekend I was a part of a beautiful baby shower in Central Illinois for a dear friend. Dana and I met in high school and we happen to share the same birthday, which we have celebrated together multiple times throughout the years. When we were 16, we hosted an outdoor dinner party where we invited all of our friends, dressed up in prom dresses, ate yummy food, and twirled around like little girls in the nearby field under the stars. Dana moved to Colorado our junior year of high school but we shared many memories together and continued to stay in touch. We traveled to London for a summer, went hiking in Colorado, stood in each others weddings…and when we couldn’t see each other in person, Dana always dropped a letter in the mail. And now, after many exciting stages of life she is entering a new stage- her and her husband Kyle are expecting a baby boy.

The shower this weekend was FULL of lovely details, games, food and community. However, during the festivities we were able to sneak outside for a few minutes and take some portraits and these were what really stood out to me. Dana’s middle name is Joy and she truly embodies that word-Joy. She is a friend that always hopes for the best and aims to live fully in the present. These photos, although just a few, simply remind me how special Dana is and how she joyfully waits in anticipation for the gift to come… -Sharon

The Cummings Christmas Tree Tradition

For the last few years we’ve been able to document slivers of the Cummings life, as well as grow closer to them as friends–heck even family. We knew of their tradition of cutting a Christmas tree each year, so we jumped at the opportunity to tag along. It was fun to be there for the process of picking ‘the tree’ and to enjoy doughnuts and cider together.

Its been a busy time of year for us all I’m sure. Ironically it can be the most stressful as well…so may we set aside our busyness to love those around us and seek quality time together this Christmas season. Merry Christmas!

I had the privilege of documenting some moments of Owen’s first day with his mom and dad. It’s been a while since I’ve been around a newborn that new, and it reminded me of the beauty of life and how delicate it is. Nate & Aimee, congratulations to you both.
